day one

26 July 2009

the events of the week and weekend after getting back have blurred into the recesses of time. the monday game was post poned to thursday and the tuesday game was cancelled. although, schpat still came over with a chess set. i was reminded how bad i really am at that game, but i think i might have improved marginally in my advanced years. we did have a good time drinking beer and playing chess. next week there won’t be a game either, and there was mention of back gammon. i’m not entirely sure about that

wednesday practice was almost as fail as the previous week (i guess not everything blurred entirely). i did manage to reassure myself that i can still hit as hard as i should be able to, when i concentrate. i might have trained my muscle memory into bad technique, which i need to fix. i fear this may be an initially frustrating exercise, but certainly worthwhile in the long run. after that we went to watch coal and junkyard at fat white’s carnal-ville. the ladies of coal have a lot of potential, but need more stage time. they do have a very awesome sound. junkyard rocked, as always. the dreaded bassist was as full of shit as always

thursday turned out to have no rolepaying, so i did very little. friday evening was for drinking jack at home, with people feeling as lazy as i did. saturday was full of lots of stuff. the leather shop in the morning, where we got various needed armouring supplies and i may have bought some more one inch spikes. we hit fat cactus for lunch, where there was a most awesome waitress. she knew how to use her cleavage to good advantage, but that was what made her awesome. i think the pinnacle of it was when asked to get a coke, she walked inside and yelled ‘get me a coke, bitch’. now that is service. after lunch, the new armour bits were implemented

that night was the ninja birthday party for our friendly neighbourhood comic salesman. in less than 24 hours, nearly 30 geeks were informed and then convened at hong’s. retarded amounts amounts of sushi were consumed. it was also amusing to see an ex there, with the waste of flesh that she is going out with now. i was studiously ignored. odd how they only do that when they aren’t with each other. after the ninja party, there was alcools down the road. we made the mistake of having a nerve staple. it’s named after the anti riot control in sid meier’s alhpa centauri and consists of equal parts stroh rum (there is no umlaut as the bottle we had didn’t have one either), tequila and vodka. normally they are quite pleasant, but the barman didn’t use equal parts. the rest of the night is a bit of a daze

sunday practice was mostly a complete fail. i arrived half an hour late and then we stood around talking for an hour. i did give the newbies the iron key armour, and properly put the fear of me into them should they lose or damage it. babyacid wanted an armour check to see if it would stand up to being hit. so i hit him. i think i surprised him with how hard i can hit. the rest of the afternoon was spent msning with traumtanzer and i see the rest of the night being about as active

21 July 2009

it seems that some time has passed. in that time some stuff happened

more recently though, i went to raiding in the frosty north with some of the local fighters. i went up early and stayed with a friend, who is also an ex of the ninja. apparently she thought this was weird. the thursday afternoon was spent designing knot work for the scroll that announced our intent to raid. that night we went for sushi with a hot blonde, unfortunately traumtanzer was not able to join us. the sushi was good, i had salmon battleships

friday was spent actually drawing the knot work on the scroll. the power went out, but that didn’t make much difference to my day. except for making it difficult to make tea. the scroll turned out quite nicely, but i didn’t manage to get a picture. i will try to find something and post it when i do. that night we got pizza at primi and tried to organise to do something exciting, but no one could think of anything. we did come across a book sale, where we found a few good books. then there was the dvd sale, where we found the die hard anthology. this made for an awesome evening and a not so early evening for the fighting the next day

this is where i am, once again, reminded that leaving things to the last minute doesn’t really work. i planned to hire a car to drive to the raid, but i could only get them to deliver it at 14:00. which was a little late for the 13:00 starting time. i managed to get a lift from the other raiders, who had got a car the previous day, and then got the car delivered to the raid venue. on the way, we picked up mekhetling and got some booze. all through this, we only got lost once and arrived an hour late. this wasn’t so bad, as the local fighters took forever to get armoured up. this was well worth the wait. fighting new people is quite challenging, but many fun. as it turns out, they have their own mad scot. needless to say, we got on very well. unfortunately he suffered an armour malfunction while we were fighting, but we will meet again

there were three new fighters there, who all showed good potential. the more experienced fighters were all out of practice, but still made a good showing. i would call it a very successful raid. even though there was no cattle theft. afterwards there was much food and merriment, as well as an impromptu court convened by sir ulf. all the fighters were given a trinket to thank them for their participation. lord caerthgyn, the resident mad scot, gave me his with the admonition that i return it to him in september when they have their next major event. so i will be there, if i have to make earth and sun

at about 20:00, i left to meet up with traumtanzer. on the way i stopped to drop my armour off, get some warmer clothes and drop off mekhetling. this meant i got to the club at 23:00, but that’s the frosty north for you. i then proceeded to have an awesome time and met some really cool people. the place was like decodance, but with a gothier atmosphere. the only part of the evening that didn’t work, was when i tried to get a round of cannonballs. they didn’t have banana liqueur or captain morgan. i will have to find a way to introduce these people to its awesome

sunday was for icon. made vague plans to get there at 11:00 and was quite proud of myself for getting there at 12:00. traumtanzer only made it there later, but it’s a coastal thing. i spent the day wondering around talking to assorted strange people and slept in my car for a bit. the prize giving was an exercise in restraint. it might have been rude to drown out the organisers with our laughter. all that needs to be said is ‘woof’ and ‘that’s what she said’. the comedian was brilliant, as always. i don’t really remember the rest, i was a little distracted. the after party was a very relaxed affair, but was spent in the company of good people

trying to get my hire period for my car cost me my cellphone, but i eventually managed to sort everything out. i got to the airport on time and managed to borrow a random stranger’s phone to organise a lift home. the airline was bordering on pissing me off, like the car hire, but they decided to allow me my excess baggage instead of making me grumpy. i will recommend them now, rather than warning people off them as i was close to doing

the rest of the week happened. if i feel there is anything worth posting, i will add it to the weekend post which will come later

3 April 2009

bring back the 1940s. well, not really. friday saw the albert hall filled with swing music, later played by a live band. it was an entertaining experience, but not my cup of tea. this wasn’t helped by the mild nausea i seemed to be experiencing, fortunately switching from jack and lime to straight jack helped settle the stomach. it turns out that i have a fan base at albert hall. they all remember my first appearance there (see previous post about them tornados). the sleepers were having an album launch at mercury, which i was going to go to. i felt it wiser to go home. this would have been the case, were i wise. instead i was lured to gotham, where a damp waif purloined my borrowed hat. this later caused a certain amount of tension

saturday was shield fixing day. i started sanding out all the knocks the new one has taken, and i trimmed down the metal brace that i have on the handle. during this process the sister arrived back from it’s acting tour thing. i went for a drink with her and a friend of hers. this segued nicely into going home, sleeping and then getting ready for the seven deadly sins party. which was not bad, but certainly not their best offering

the next day was the first proper session of the other other werewolf game. this was a mostly entertaining affair, although they managed to get two sessions worth of the other werewolf game into one. i’m not sure how well this bodes. fortunately i’m ready for them to get to london, where the fun will really start (no more detail than that, as there are players that read this)

packing started on monday. by all the gods (said in a very purple voice), i hate packing. there should be a better way. yes, i could have paid people to do it. only i needed to sort through some of the crap to make sure that it was mine and not something came with the flat. at least this all lead to me getting away from the garden in the cottage. tuesday evening was the actual move, although i stayed behind with the cat for one more night. one last load to the new place saw me leave behind the contents of my fridge and a towel. all i want is the towel, my butter tray and the ice cream (i may have to kill the new tenant if it ate my ice cream)

dragan seems to have settled into the new place, after spending the first day under the bed. he’s a bit of a wuss, sometimes

we shall now see if i can do all 20 things that are planned for this weekend. haha, no. some things will be dropped

day one

3 April 2009

i missed last week, deal with it. some stuff happened, it was awesome and you will never know

last week wednesday was saw me at madness, with the ze german. it was a good night …
thursday was not watchmen, as had been previously advertised. i may yet see this movie on the big screen, but i no longer hold my breath
thursday did contain a team outing to beluga (the restaurant, not the place in … russia?). there was many, many, many sushi. there was also a fair amount of prawns and an awesome desert, i think it was some sort of deep fried lindt with basil syrup (that last part may be inaccurate)

friday was dinner at some thai place in the winefarmery. the food was pretty good, but i needed to rush out to meet ze german. we went to stones to meet her friends, where mr 42 also appeared. he then disappeared, but that is his wont. we moved to gandalf’s/gotham, where things got a little weird. duncs was there, which led to an interesting time. there are rumours about events that happened that night, i deny everything

saturday was zombies!!!!! only instead of playing the humans, we played the zombies in one of the new expansions

then some more stuff happened, but this post has got way out of hand and ridiculously late

day one

13 March 2009

this week happened

there was the monday game, full of awesome. despite the best efforts of one of the players to disrupt everything. my tuesday game is going well, despite the efforts of the same person to disrupt it. words are needed, bleaurgh

wednesday was hong’s buffet. the sushi high started early and lasted long. this may be related to only having eaten a fun sized mars bar the entire day, but it was totally worth it. the hour and a half practice before the buffet, on an empty stomach, might have contributed to the weird headness that was experienced

last night was meant to be watchmen with ze german girl (this is the one that i met on wednesday, not the one that i had the date with). instead i went for bs (technically beer and steak, although there was a lot of bullshit too). now to get through this day, and hopefully the book shop supplies will go down well. if they fail, i will be in a bookshop, so i can buy a book. it’s a win-win situation. it is awesome being me

weekend babies, they seem to be common today

day one

9 March 2009

look at that, two posts in one week then a missed week. meh

the maynardville experience 2.0 was, indeed, more rowdy. we went to gotham and then to gandalf’s, when gotham closed, and proceeded to drink many more alcohols. i may have been mildly inebriated and therefore am not responsible for anything i might not remember. the saturday was disorenting and a little painful. there was no food or anything to drink until i went shopping at about 18:00. that was a very surreal experience as i felt as if i were on acid. sunday was bluegrass and many laughings, many many laughings

some stuff happened during the week. including meeting a very nice german girl, while on a date with someone else. the first girl was pleasant, but did there was insufficient spark to warrant further contact. so this was a most fortuitous turn of events. more on this later

last weekend involved less drink, which was good. it did involve more heat, which was bad. friday was abominably hot. we gathered at my place for monty python fluxx, which was awesome. there was some jack and lime, which went down well. there was also sushi, which is always a win. dragan was delighted with his peice of salmon sashimi. i just now realised that he likes ginger, and he didn’t get any the poor thing. then we left my airconiditioned paradise to brave the halls of decodanace, where some silliness happened. there was a procesion to gotham. here we were surprised by the ork. he was being his usual animated self, although was drowning a memory that noone should really need to remember

saturday was descent. there was no spanky, but we managed to finish the dungeon that we failed to complete previously. it only took us SEVEN HOURS! meh. then there was the tarts and trannies, or some such, at gotham. this was ok. i saw the ninja again, which was surprisingly difficult. apparently there are attractive young women out there that know me, but i do not know them. this is not right

sunday was fighter practice and star gate atlantis. the wraith are goths and they listen to marylin manson
there was also the goon show, spaghetti bolognaise and geist mds (an anime of sorts) as well as more ghost in the shell

p.s read baby acid’s post on fiddle east

day one

27 February 2009

it’s friday and you are getting a seoncd post, something unheard of in the history of not very long. there are two, not very good, reasons for this. one is that i’ve only got around to finishing wednesday’s post now, and the other is that, as i said on wednesday, this is the busiest week in the universe (that still isn’t really true)

wednesday was the start of the maynardville commuinty chest carnival. the once a year event that allows us insular cape townians to drink ourselves around the world. i went with some friends, who are more sedate than some of my other friends. it was a very pleasant experience. i am going again tonight. these people will be less sedate, perhaps more rowdy. it should be entertaining

as it turns out i don’t have as much to say as i thought i did, meh

day one

27 February 2009

this is wednesday of the busiest week in the universe. that’s not really true, but it sounds good

this weekend was the weekend of win. it started with an email full of pictures of kittens from the ninja, on friday morning. the evening i had a power nap, before going to pick up wikidknickers*. an on campus CLAWs type, here after known only as the hair, was celebrating the fact that he had managed to stay alive for 21 consecutive years. we arrived at the house of doom about ten minutes before everyone decided to go to gotham. only it was more like half an hour before we left, but that’s what they’re like. gotham was fun. the people there were entertaining as usual. corrupting first years with tequila – check

later that night i was letting people into the private party, and introducing them to the hair so that they could be there legitimately. a regular that i vaguely know came in with some other people i let in, so he was required to find an attractive young lady to bring in. this worthy was able to bring in two. the one was a kickboxer with an obsession with vampires. this lead to an interesting conversation about the various merits of vampires and werewolves (i was taking the perspective from white wolf). she is also potentially interested in heavy combat, and i suspect she would be good at it

saturday afternoon was spent playing descent with scphat, moonflake, zenstar and spanky. then i went to wikidknicker’s place, were we were meant to be watching muffin the vampire baker. only, it turns out they were watching south park while getting ready to go out. as it turns out, fiddle east is really cool. despite being tired, and i had a headache, i danced like a loon for many hours. then there was a short interlude at decodance, before going home

sunday we had a fighter practice. this consisted of me and thegn ulf drinking beer, discussing pennsic and watching videos of fighting. this was followed by a braai at wikidknicker’s place. the braai involved much silliness, a plastic dinosaur egg (filled with dried goo and a plastic dinosaur), black bags, mayonaise, threats of grevious bodily harm, bullshit (the good kind), much meat, potato salad, stuff that food eats and buffy the vampire slayer. hopefully that doesn’t make much sense, otherwise i will worry about you

day one

18 February 2009

this past weekend was entertaining

saturday was what people now call valentine’s day. does no one remember that the valentine this day is named for is a saint. i’m not catholic, not by any stretch of the imagination (and mine is pretty stretchy), but surely we should show a little respect for the man. he was, after all, a pretty nice guy to be named a saint. he earned the title, so we should use it

due to a prior gauntlet malfunction, the tournament did not go as well as it could have. the ones that i was borrowing were good, but they did not allow my hands to close properly. this might not sound like a big thing, but adding forcing your hands closed to hitting someone with a stick while trying to stop him hitting you and you will see that it is rather tiring. i did manage to attract the attention of two of the ladies present. admittedly one was the lady gracious enough to allow me to champion her for the tourney. this means that when i organise the white day tourney next month, i will have reciprocate their gifts

speaking of attracting the attention of the ladies, that night was a little different to usual. i had been invited to several different events, with the plan to pop in to each of them. that didn’t happen, but meh. decodance was running a hippy party, so i decide sarong with no top. hippies do that, right? then after being at decodane for not that long, we are marched of to go see il tornados (in one’s worst mexican accent). the place wasn’t too bad, the warmup band were inoffensive and them tornadoes were pretty damn cool. the most notable part of this, for me at least, was the large number of young ladies that were peering in my direction or coming up and asking me for a light. i had left the sarong in the car, but i hadn’t put a top on. this clearly had some sort of positive effect. the only downside was the attractive ones weren’t single. meh

we returned to decodance and the music was at the point of taking a turn for the better, although there were fewer women approaching me. on the plus side, there was no crazy telling that i should kill myself. this was entertaining. then the rest of the rable rousers went to gotham, but i stayed with some of the other people i knew. things were fun for a bit. then i felt the need to go home and sleep. somehow i ended up joining the gotham crowd to go get steers, which i had planned to do before going but somehow failed to do. so supper was had at about 04:00.

sunday saw werewolf the character creationing. gods, what am i letting myself in for

p.s the evil day star burninated me again

day one

12 February 2009

yesterday was the third running of the celebrity larp and the second time i played in it. both times i was an extra, whose sole purpose was an attempt to derail everyone else’s carefully constructed plans. unfortunately my heart wasn’t in it this time, fortunately there was someone else to do it for me. good fun was had by us, at the expense of the first years

the biggest thing that was distracting me was the fact that my gauntlets are failing. they have provided unfailing service at keeping my fingers from being pulped, despite some minor workmanship failure along the way. they are probably in need of a complete overhaul, which will mean breaking several more drill bits. this will be worth it in the long run. i have considered replacing them, but at about $100 a pop (yes that is USD) i will hang onto them for a little longer. it has only been a year and a half, although they have seen a fair amount of action in that time. there is a tourney this valentine’s saturday coming, and i have been leant a pair of gauntlets that are superior in manufacture to mine. i may have to kill someone
